If you follow my personal profiles (@ashadornfest on Facebook–Instagram–Twitter), you’re well aware of my choice for President. But I’m not going to talk about that here. I think, no matter who you’re voting for, you deserve some peace right now. We all need a respite from the anxiety this election has created. It breaks my heart to think of the shock and fear a significant percentage of our citizens will feel no matter who wins.
You can’t make Election Day come any faster. But there IS something you can do to make it through till then. You can help get out the vote.
I am not particularly political. I always vote, but I’ve never donated to nor gotten involved in a presidential campaign. That changed this year. And it is doing wonders for my anxiety.
I’ve joined a Call Team for my candidate’s campaign to make phone calls to friendly voters in swing states. The goal is to be sure they have all they need to vote. That’s it.
I’m not trying to convince those who answer the phone to change their minds. Our conversations are pleasant, even inspiring. Getting involved takes this election out of the realm of media hysteria and spin and into the realm of humanity.
Hearing a voice on the other end of the line is deeply calming. A real person with a choice to make and a right to make it, and perhaps I can help. It’s the exact opposite of the panic I feel every time I reload the news (which I seem to do obsessively right now).
Check your candidate’s website for information on how to get involved. There are things you can do from home. (And it doesn’t have to take a lot of time. I made calls for 10 minutes the other day.) If you’d rather hang out with others, visit your local campaign office. Take your kids with you and let them see you stand behind the person you’re supporting.
You’ll feel better, I promise. Because you’ll know that you did all you could no matter how this election turns out.
PS. If you’d like to join my Call Team (which I would LOVE), here’s the link.
PSS. In case it’s not clear, this post is intended for all voters, no matter what their political stripe. So no campaigning in the comments, please. Negative comments of any sort will be deleted.
