Tote and store beach toys in a mesh popup hamper

in: Organizing Time & Space, Travel & Outings

In Oregon, now is a great time to head to the beach. I hope to put Rabia’s hack to use this weekend:

I will freely admit that this is not my hack, but I saw it today at the beach and thought it was ingenious! A family down the beach from us had one of those mesh, pop-up hampers with all their beach toys in it. After they were done, they rinsed them off in clear water and carried them off. They have enough air around them to dry without getting gross and they are easy to carry around!

I have 3 boys and lots of sports gear for outside. We use a mesh popup hamper to hold all the various size balls — baseball, tennis, whiffle, rubber, beach, etc. and it’s a perfect height to hold the bats as well without toppling over. Makes it really easy to go through the yard gathering everything up at the end of the playday to bring inside. Plus on rainy days we use it as a “goal” to toss balls into all around the family room.

We use something similar for the beach. It’s a giant mesh bag. Walmart sells them for about $4.00. It’s easy to carry over your shoulder and has a pull-tie so nothing falls out. By the time we walk to the car, all the sand has come off the toys. It’s wonderful and even the kids can carry it. Becuase it is so airy, none of the toys ever smell, either.
